Secure video, Australia-wide
How online therapy works.
Online therapy is simply a session with your psychologist held over secure video instead of in a room. For most people it feels natural within the first few minutes, and it means you can have your session from home, from a parked car on a lunch break, or anywhere private and quiet. Here is exactly how it works, so there are no unknowns before your first appointment.

Booking and getting set up.
When you book, you will receive a confirmation and a secure link for your session. There is no app to download and nothing to install. At your appointment time you click the link on your phone, tablet or computer, and your psychologist meets you there. If it is your first session, we will have sent you anything you need to complete beforehand, so the time together is spent on you.

What you need.
A quiet, private space where you will not be interrupted, a reasonable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. Headphones help with privacy and sound, though they are not essential. That is the whole list.

What a session is like.
Your psychologist will talk with you much as they would in a room, and you set the pace. The first session is mostly about understanding what has brought you here and what you would like to work towards, so your psychologist can ask a few questions and you can get a feel for working together. From there, each session builds on the last.
Your privacy and security.
Sessions are held over a secure, encrypted connection, and your personal and health information is handled under the Privacy Act and applicable state health records law. We will not record your session. If you would like to know more about how your information is stored and protected, our privacy policy sets it out in full.

Is online therapy right for you?
Telehealth suits most people and most of the work we do, from anxiety and depression to trauma, grief and life transitions. It is especially helpful if you are time-poor, live in a regional or rural area, have limited local options, or simply prefer the comfort of your own space. If at any point an in-person service would serve you better, your psychologist will talk that through with you honestly and help you find the right option. Online therapy is not suitable for emergencies.

Funding your online sessions.
Online sessions attract the same Medicare rebate as in-person sessions. With a GP referral and a mental health treatment plan, Medicare rebates $101.55 on an eligible session with a registered psychologist, which leaves about $143.45 out of pocket on a $245 session. We also see NDIS and private clients.
