Trauma therapy
Online trauma therapy.
Online trauma therapy gives you a safe, steady way to work through the impact of difficult experiences, from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Trauma is not a sign of weakness, and its effects are workable with the right support. At AusCare, you can see a registered psychologist by secure video, anywhere in Australia, with the early sessions paced carefully and your sense of safety put first.

Signs you might recognise.
Difficult or frightening experiences can stay with us long after they are over. People describe flashbacks or intrusive memories, being easily startled or on guard, trouble sleeping, avoiding reminders of what happened, feeling numb or disconnected, and a sense of not being safe or settled even when nothing is wrong. These are common responses to overwhelming experiences, and support can help.

How online trauma therapy works.
We take a trauma-informed approach, which means we move at your pace and build a sense of safety before anything else. Your psychologist works with you to understand how past experiences are affecting you now and to build practical ways of managing their impact, drawing on evidence-based approaches and grounding and regulation skills. Therapy can help you process and manage the effects of difficult experiences, and everyone’s path through that is different, so the work is shaped around you. Sessions are held over secure video, and you remain in control of the pace throughout.

What trauma therapy can help with.
People come to us for support with the effects of single or repeated difficult experiences, feeling constantly on alert, avoidance that is narrowing their life, intrusive memories, difficulty feeling safe or settled, and the anxiety, low mood or sleep problems that often sit alongside trauma. The aim is to help you feel safer in yourself and more able to live the way you want.

What to expect in your sessions.
The early sessions focus on understanding what you are carrying and building the foundations, including a sense of safety and some practical skills for managing distress, before any deeper work. Nothing is rushed. You and your psychologist agree the direction together, usually in fifty-minute sessions by secure video, and you set the pace at every step.

Who it is for.
We work with children aged seven and over, teenagers and adults. If you are supporting a young person, we will talk through how a parent or guardian is involved.
Fees and Medicare rebates.
A standard session is $245. With a GP referral and a mental health treatment plan, Medicare rebates $101.55 on an eligible session with a registered psychologist, so you are about $143.45 out of pocket. We also see NDIS and private clients, and some practitioners accept WorkCover and TAC.
